Spring Cleaning: What To Do & Look For When Cleaning Your Foam Roof

The start of spring means that it is time to start cleaning your house, inside and outside. Make sure that remember to also clean and inspect your foam roof this spring. Here are a few things you need to do to keep your foam roof in great shape this spring.

#1 Clean Off All Debris

The first thing you need to do is clean off any debris that has landed on your roof during the winter time. You can use a broom to gently sweep any debris that has landed on your roof off of it. If there is not that much debris on your roof, you can also pick it up and toss it into a designed pile down below.

You don't want to leave debris sitting on top of your foam roof. Over time, the debris that you leave sitting on top of your foam roof could damage it. It is best to keep your foam roof clear of debris.

#2 Don't Use Your Roof As A Patio

The second thing you should do is refrain from using your roof as a patio. Even though foam roofs are sturdy, that does not mean that you should set up a chair on your roof. Keep all patio furniture off your roof, and all get on your roof to clean it off on a seasonal basis. The less you use  your roof, the longer it will last.

#3 Keep An Eye Out For Discoloration & Unusual Textures

The third thing you should do is keep an eye out for discoloration and unusual textures as you clean your roof this spring. You should walk around your entire roof and look for discoloration and strange textures. Your roof should be the same color throughout; the color should not vary significantly from one area of your roof to another. If the color varies significantly, it could be a sign that your foam roof has become damaged.

Another sign to look out for is strange texture patterns. Your foam roof should have the same texture as an orange peel - small, consistent bumps that create a smoothly textured surface. If you notice areas where the texture is more pronounced, that is a sign that your foam roof may be compromised and in need of repair.

If you notice discoloration and unusual textures, you need to have a professional (such as one from Bell Roof Co) come out and inspect your foam roof.

By cleaning your foam roof and looking for abnormalities this spring, you can work to ensure that your roof stays in good conditions for years to come.
